What I have done is mount the loco upside down in my fabric cradle servicing cradle, taking care not to damage any details.

I clip the power leads to the tender wheels.

I set the locos wheels turning at a "medium" speed.

I then use a fine brush to apply paint to just the edge of the tyres/tires, not the wheel rim.

Remember, steam loco tyres/tires are only about two inches to three inches on the tread thickness.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hello,
Could not have explained any better.Just to add make sure you clean the sidewalls with like a Q tip and some alcohol and let them dry well .A patient prep goes a long way.Hope this helps ;D
