Too Cool, Fred!

Fred,

According to Google Translate, it means

"Zelennïkovskaya WJD.Plavayuşçïy locomotives".......

Whatever that means...

(My best guess is .."Take care on the narrow gauge track - as the snow is melting...") ???

I like the 'dual-gauge' track in the first clip.

It would also be quite an 'aromatic' place in which to live and work, when burning all those old rubber tyres.......

The second clip was interesting, but I couldn't grasp what was being said. Even the subtitles were no help!  ;D

Quite a contrast (technologically speaking) between the earlier 1930s operations and the later, post-war processes. (Still bloody hard work, though....)

I liked the swivel-couplers on the mining skips as they were inverted and unloaded, and yet remained coupled together.

Another couple of winners, Fred!

On30 / Re: On30 Market?

It's only a calculated guess on my part, but I would suggest the US - due to the fact that 99% of the On30 models produced are of American outline.

It's only due to kit-bashing that the rest of the world produces some "other" outline stuff.

That's my theory, anyway.

Another good one, Fred.

I like the spiffy little 0-4-0 Saddle Tank loco, too!

Thanks for sharing!

On30 / Re: On30 Annual 2016
December 15, 2014, 03:59:00 PM
I ordered every "annual" until last year the cost for S&H to Europe exploded. It was higher than the "annual" itself. Hope S&H will now be lower....

Same thing here in Australia. Postage costs has always been the killer - not just from Carstens, but also from Walthers, and other US suppliers.

ESPECIALLY Micro-Mark!

 ;D

Very evocative, Fred.

Just love NG steam in a green, leafy setting!

I thought exactly the same thing Hamish, when I saw the video. It occurred to me that you wouldn't even need to model the ballast, or the sleepers, which would be something of a plus...

Then, it also occurred to me that you couldn't represent the long grass actually moving, as per the prototype, and even if you did, you would very soon gum up the drive mechanism of the loco with poly (or whatever) fibres...

Oh, well....

I guess that some things must remain in 1:1 scale!

Hey Fred,

LOVED the Romanian NG!!

What a great little loco!!

It was working quite hard on the slippery, grass-covered rails during the parallel-shunt with the steel cable. Nice to see that this sort of rustic scene is still happening somewhere in this crazy, modern, micro-chip world!

This one is a keeper! ;D

Thanks again, Fred!

On30 / Re: Youtube Some nice narrow gauge modeling

Nice British Steam trams, Fred.

I have always loved small tank locomotives... :-*

As to Troels' work, it is always an inspiration to us all. The bloke is a legend. ;)

Thank you again for sharing.

On30 / Re: Youtube real and model narrow guage

Another winner, Fred! ;D

The title roughly translates out as "Narrow gauge Model Days Valkenburg 2014"

Thank you again.

On30 / Re: On30 on 15' radius track
September 03, 2014, 08:07:36 PM
As I recall, (it has been several years since my Forney conversion) the rear truck on this loco is mounted on a left-to-right 'slide' which would make fitting a truck-mounted coupler quite a challenge! :o

The Backwoods Miniatures kit is very good, and the instructions are concise and clear. The conversion job was not as daunting as I first imagined.

QuoteAre you aware of other On30 locomotives appropriate for my 15" situation?

For the best runner that will not only looks great, but handles 15" radii, you should take a look at the 4-4-0 American. It's a real gem! ::)

I also run the Bachmann 2-6-0 Mogul around my tight radii with no problem...

On30 / Re: On30 on 15' radius track

The Forney is a good running loco, and certainly looks the part.

It will negotiate 15" radius curves at a low speed, but the rear overhang tends to be excessive, and will probably sweep following trucks and wagons off the track.

The front overhang is not quite as large, and this means that those same wagons will stay coupled, if they are pulled through the curve with the coal bunker leading. However, all this will depend on how well you have 'tuned' and adjusted the couplers which join the loco to its consist.

Like a few other On30 modellers, I took the step of converting my Forney to a  2-4-0 with a nifty little tender, courtesy of a Backwoods Miniatures conversion kit.

As a result, Forney "Kate" has never looked or run better!
