Title: 2-8-0
Post by: mickeykelley on February 26, 2010, 12:20:39 PM
Are the 2-8-0 engines physically bigger/longer than the 4-4-0?  What radius do they need?

The Bachmann 2-8-0 is a lot bigger the the 4-4-0 and a lot heavier. It was my favorite engine until the K-27 arrived. I don't know about track size, I only have 20 ft. diameter. They go through the switches OK.

Mickey,
My 2-8-0 will run fine on 8 ft. diameter/4 ft radius curves. VERY nice loco. As stated above, larger than the 4-4-0 (also a wonderful loco).
Happy Rails To You,
Ted

I've run my Connie successfully through Train Line45 R2 (3ft radius approx) turnouts with no problem.  And this was through an 'S' curve too (ie two turnouts together)  :)

Interestingly, my Mogul - only 6-coupled - didn't fare so well :(

and the Shay derailed every time...  :o
