Title: Couplers
Post by: rick1127 on December 05, 2009, 09:41:56 AM
OK bought a Bachmann Silver Series track cleaner that has the EZ-Mate Magnetic couplers.  The rest of my stock and engines still have the original couplers that came withthe set, OBTW they are HO.  So I need to change, what is the difference in EZ-Mate and EZ-Mate II?  And how to I know if I need short medium or long?

i think the original ez mates had the plastic knuckle spring which is prone to failure. the IIs have the metal knuckle spring and are thus more reliable. as for shank length, it is a matter of how far back the pivot in the coupler box is on the car. some are set back further and require a longer shank. also, if you have super sharp curves, and the corners of your cars hit when rounding curves, you'll need longer shank couplers.

Thanks Jeff.  Since I need to do all the other cars I will go with the II.  18* and 22" curves with no real sharp turns, so the medium should work.  Gonnin to a show today, so maybe I can get a deal on a bunch.
