Ok SteamGene, if I understand correctly: I have to have all mt track within 24 inches of an edge?
I assume that this is so I might be able to reach everything right?

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I might try the drywall compound. And now, my buildings are not attached they are just sitting on the surface. I'm out of room on that board now, and the next thing will probably be another 4x8 sheet of osb. Of course that means more track, turnouts, buildings, and scenery. I really like this hobby.
I've had a few hobbies over the years from R/C planes and helicopters. (Honey I crashed my Extra 300 today, gonna go to the hobby shop and spend $500 to get a new plane) Then I did R/C Monster truck racing, and I still fly Cessna 172's and Piper Cherokee's. Who would have thought that flying a full-sized aircraft would be cheaper than the models?
But trains really bring back my childhood!

HO / First HO layout since I was 13
January 06, 2008, 09:08:08 AM
Folks,
Here are some pics of the first layout I've done since I was 13. I'm 39 now. Had a Lionel running under the Christmas tree, but this is the first actual layout. It's 4' x 8' (for now) Two loops, out loop has passing siding. It's DCC. And I know that the Chessie and SF would never run together, but I'm just getting started. Any comments are welcome. I'm very intertested in how to model realistic asphalt streets. Again, thanks for looking!

HO / Re: New to HO Trains - Have questions

If you are using ez track, then the wiring takes care of itself. Red cable with coaxial jack into TO TRACK on back of power pack. Other end goes to terminal track.
Switches get power from accessory terminals.
Just about any engine will pull 12 cars.
As for scenery you can start with this one from NMRAhttp://www.gatewaynmra.org/scenery.htm

HO / Re: HO 4x8 dual train layouts

SteamGene is right! Use insulated rail joiners to electrically separate sections of track. Then you can use two throttles or more and have one train running on each block. Also you can move one train between many blocks. BUT! beware of the turnouts! If they have powered frogs you may be in trouble.

HO / Re: E-Z Command Problems: Powering locomotives

You could try a simple shotgun-type approach, just to see if it works.

1. take all engines off the track.
2. press and hold the 3 button the EZ Command
3. Press and release the stop button then the #3
4. Put engine with decoder on track.
5. press #1
6. press stop.
7. press #1
8. turn throttle and see if engine goes.

That method will set the decoder address to #1 no matter what it is set to. The you know with out a doubt the address is #1 and if it doesn;t work now, it's not going to work as it is.

HO / Re: Which DCC System to get
December 24, 2007, 01:45:57 PM
I have the EZ-Command system. I like it a great deal. It is very easy to use, and has most features you may be looking for. As for programming, it is limited, but not much. You cant change individual CV values. But for the money, it's a great choice. If you get to the point where you need to do serious programming, then either upgrade to a new system, use a freind's, or do it at a shop. My local shop will let me use their Digitrax system anytime I need to. Become friends with your local shop, you will get more than good deals, you'll get advice, help, and access to all sorts of "toys" that you may want to use, but really don't need to buy.
