Post by: trainmanjay on December 30, 2009, 07:09:48 PM
Currently I am looking to buy a Peco Loco Lift. Can anyone give me any comments or tips regarding this?

On Carl Arendt's micro/small layout website, folks frequently use these for short cassettes. A cassette is used to carry a locomotive, or a couple of cars, from off layout onto the scene. I will eventually get a couple of these devices for that purpose and use them on the Monks' Island Brewery.

Do you think that this is a good device to use in a yard of engines?

Sure - although you will need approximately 12" to set the Loco Lift down (this means clear of structures and rolling stock. I will have a short (12" or so) tail track on one end of my micro layout to use as a 'set point' for the Loco Lift. I'm sure any place, on your layout that is reasonably straight, could be used to load or off-load equipment using this device. Until I find the time, I will be using a Loco Lift as a 'poor man's cassette'...keep in mind my use may differ from yours Jay.

Happy New Year,
