I have a mogul here and the motor turns but not the wheels.
I have not opened it up yet.
Any idea what to expect?  Does it have a gear problem like the  2-8-0?
Are we able to get repair parts?

Large / 2-8-0 paper work

I have a 2-8-0 engine here "DEADWOOD CENTRAL #5".
Really nice engine.  Seems to run nice.
I will be putting a PB-11 sound card in the tender.
All I have is the engine and tender.
Is there any paper work around? Wiring diagram?

I have the decoder installed.  The hard part was finding space to
put the decoder.

the 4 main decoder wires (2 track & 2 motor) just need to be
removed from the terminal block and attached to the decoder.
I needed to lengthen these wires.
this gives you control of the motor

then cut  the blue b+ common, yellow rear led+ and white front +
wires from the 6 pin connector.  attach them to your decoder.
this gives the decoder control of the front / rear lights

the 6 pin connecter can be pluged back in with the 2 purple and
brown smoke unit / cab light wires.
this leaves the cab light and smoke unit as originally installed.

Has anyone got information on installing a dcc decoder into this engine?
Wiring diagram G824X-IS008 shows the track /  motor connections ok.
I can move them to the decoder.
Then it shows the wires in a 6 pin connector.
My guess is that I cut the front and rear light wires and connect them to the decoder.

Then what?  B+ and smoke unit and cab light.
Can the smoke unit be left as is and run by manual switch?

I guess I can always trace the cab light wires and reroute them to the decoder.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
David

You can try these suggestions

1 try the engine on an analog track. It should move.

2 if you are not sure what the address is read back CV. 1 (loco address)
Normally a new engine comes with an address of 3 (CV. 1= 3)and speed steps set to 28 (cv. 29 = 6).
Or you can program cv.1 to a number you want.   ie CV. 1= ...........

3 if this fails there maybe a broken wire as Bill suggested

Large / 2-6-0 mogul decoder install

I have a mogul #81494 (dcc ready) that a friend has asked me to put a decoder in.
He does not have the paper work.  Does anyone know where I can get the wiring diagram?
The set on the Bachmann site is out of date and does not show dcc ready.
Also has anyone put a decoder into this mogul.  My guess it would have to be a small one.
Not much room available.  The type and/ or amperage would be helpfully.

My problem was that I could use the functions keys to control sounds when the engine
was stopped but as soon as I started the engine the function keys would not work.

The noise suppression capacitors were interfearing with the signal. I removed them and
the problem was solved.

Send an e-mail to Jim and John at Phoenix with your problem.  I have had good success
with them helping me out.

I removed the 3 capacitors from each board and the problem is solved.

I would think this is an old one.
It is not dcc ready.

It is a climax that I need the information for.
I found the Heisler all ready.

Doe's anyone know where I can get a copy of the wiring and parts list for a Heisler?
I  have one here that I need to put a decoder and sound into.
Plus it sounds like it may have a stripped gear.

This shay has a circuit board in each truck that seems to be the problem.
Can I just bypass these components?  (3 capicators labeled 104 and two shrunk rapped
Components, diodes maybe) board labeled G821X PCBO5 REV.A.
