Trackside Details has a lot of basic pasrts--including domes.  You might be on your own for a cab--although I think there are some companies making laser-cut kits.  Evergreen has styrene sheet and shapes.

What is the ancestry of this car?  Is it in Sloan's book?

I am an old geezer who will be 72 my next b'day--My first trainset came in the depths of WWII--when such things were not allowed to be made.  Lots of things were rationed--so the second-hand market was my source of trains and other "necessities"for a 3-year-old.

My parents did not smoke, but they bought their ration of cigarettes every week and stashed them away .  For Christmas 1943 (or possibly 1944) they put an ad on a bulletin board for a train--offering to trade cigarettes for one.  They got lots of offers to buy the cigarettes, but "A little boy needs a train  for Christmas".  Eventually they found a Marx "Army Supply Train"--a wind-up one at that--because they were worried about me having an electric one at that age.

I can't really say that I still have it--but over the years A have managed to find most of the components of the electric version.

Even earlier--my mother that my dad had a set of Tootsie Toy trains when he picked us up at the hospitalwhen  I was born!

In re-working the handcar, how about revising it to run on a AA penlight cell?  That could reazlly be fun--gj

General Discussion / catalog
February 15, 2013, 09:04:06 PM
All I wanted to do was order a 2013 catalog.  Why is it so complicated.  I have spent a half hour trying to tell your comfuser my info and it does not seem to like me.   Why do I need a password to get a catalog.  I have no idea what it is--it said it would send me  a new one, which I willl probably forget as well.  HELP!!

Thank you

Glenn  Joesten   PS--B'man--I have a spare copy of the fmous Orchard Supply Hardware calendar but have also lost your address--if you c an send off-list.

Miniatronics has "golden white" LED's that really look good--come with ballast resistors--test before you solder the wires to make sujre the polarity is right.  the LED's last almost forever.  gj

December 04, 2012, 05:50:04 PM
Finally decided to download and save the C-19  video.  Was only able to get a You-Tube of the first part (the history)-- but not the maintenance part. How do we do this??     (Really wish you still packed the video with the loco--

Thanks--

the brakeman has a lantern--available separately.  On mine, I feed the track power thru a small bridge rectifier so the lanatern does not go out when backing--connect the AC terminals to the track and DC to the lantern.  gj
