Title: help identifying these
Post by: jettrainfan on July 21, 2010, 12:52:21 PM
well, i probably find something that stumps me about every other week but i finally downloaded my clips on the computer and i got 2 this time.

The first one is a little GE 25 switcher found outside of belleview but the line its parked on is a siding on the W&LE line. I called up my friend and said that they used it to move things around the museum. i could see that happening sense the engine hasn't been tagged yet  but i thought they borrowed a crew and a NS unit. So does anyone know if the engine is operitable, some history...something?

The next i caught yesterday morning and i wasn't planning on catching any kind of freight at all on the ex. NKP. the subject is the second clip (9799 leading) give it about 20 seconds and you'll see what i mean. Does anyone know what it was/what in the world what it was doing on this mixed freight? it looks familiar in ways but im not sure. i just know its M.O.W stuff.

Concerning the MOW equipment:

The first car appears to be a ballast gondola, the second car appears to be a tie layer, the third car appears to have some unknown (by me) equipment.

Cheers,
Joshua

It's an easy way to get it from one point to another, just tack it in a cut of cars going that direction. As to what it is, it appears to be some type of ballasting machinery. The gons following that were likely holding replacement ties.

Hi
looks like you have parts of a ballast reclaimer on the train.
some of the other stuff following the train
ballast regulator, tamper, don't know what they call it but it digs out the ballast around the sleepers, sleeper pullers looks like there where a couple of spike drivers or pandrol squeezer's
And a couple I don't recognize.
