Title: wiring turnouts with the digital command
Post by: hammerman on December 09, 2007, 07:41:40 AM
I am new to the bachman train stuff. I bought a layout for my son, and I am wondering how to wire the turnouts. Do I need a separate controller other than the digital command to do this?
Thanks.

The track of the turnouts requires no special wiring.  The turnout motors come with a plug-in wiring harness that requires a power source of about 12 to 16 volts, ac or dc.  You can either use the ac terminals of an auxiliary power pack or you can buy a "wall wart" type power pack, chop off the low voltage plug, and splice onto the end of the wire.  You could use the output of your DCC command station but it would slow or even stop the trains whenever you threw a switch.
