Title: Lighting
Post by: jimbob261 on November 10, 2013, 11:42:24 AM
Can I power 12v led's with 9v- I like to use 9v batts and a toggle sw to light my buildings so I do not have to drill holes in my layout. I like to move stuff around on my layout and this way I do not end up with holes all over.Togle sw on the side of the building and batt pack inside building.

Jim,
I see noo reason why it would not and that's a great idea. I just took one of my 12v LED's and hoked to a 9v battery and it will light and does not seem to be much dimmer than the others I have. If I were doing this I would put a 1k resistor in.
Here's a link on some info for LED's..

You might want to paint the inside of the buildings a dark color.

And those batteries should last a looooong while. Longer if you tone down brightness.
