The Village Street Car Set says it is auto-reversing. I guess it goes end to end. My question: Can you use any engine on an auto-reversing track?
Sure can

I bought the "auto reversing" set. I tried an engine I have. It did not stop and reverse. Is there a special train necessary? does it have t obe a DCC engine? Do I have to do something different?
Thank you for any guidance.

If the Tram/Streetcar works correctly on the auto reversing track, then any other loco you use on the same track should work the same, the auto reversing track has nothing to do with DCC.
If the streetcar does not work then you need to re check that you have set things up correctly.
:D That is very cool!!!! Thank you!! How does this work? Can I put a turnout on the track? can it go back a forth through a turnout?
You could have a turn out but there are a few things that would be an issue, you would have to run wires from the conductors under the track to bridge the gap created by the turnout , bachmann does not make a turn out for use with with the reversing unit that I know of, the other issue would be getting the points on the turnout in the correct position, I have set the manual slide switch on the eztrack turnouts so they can be pushed open by the train when it passes through them, then when backing the train switches to the other track. I'm not sure if you could create a siding and run two trains that pass each other though, I'm just guessing that is what you are leading to.
There is a English firm called Heathcote Electronics who specialise in control systems for automatic model train stop, start and reverse with variations in the system which can allow different numbers of sidings or station stops , passing loops , crossings , point and signal control etc . Their systems will work with virtually any type or make of track and are very inexpensive.
The pickups on the loco have to clear the gaps in the track for it to reverse, right? It wouldn't work with a long loco.
Thanks Hunt. I stand corrected.
