Title: Troubleshooting a new S4
Post by: 2002p51 on November 18, 2019, 05:30:37 PM
I recently purchased a new Sound Value Alco S4 on a popular auction site. The only sound the loco makes is the prime mover at idle. The loco does not move forward or back and none of the sounds respond to commands. No bell, horn, or lights. I have tried readdressing it from 3 to the cab number and back again. I have tried resetting CV8 and adjusting several other CVs with no success. My system is an NCE Power Cab. Any advice or ideas to get this thing running would be appreciated. Thanks.

You MIGHT be able to read the address from DecoderPro in the JMRI suite.

You'll need NCE's USB interface to connect your test/programming track to your computer.

What mode was your Power Cab set for, Program On Main or Programming Track?

Try CV32=2. Take the loco off the track for about a minute. Return to track. After about 6 seconds, the lights should flash 16 time to show the re-set worked.  Joe
