Can this be powered by DC?

Also, does the chuff work off a cam or off varying voltage to the circuit?

UPDATE---is the chuff even part of this circuit board, or is it bell/whistle only?

I think I've got an answer for my 1st question, I did see where a S-scale guy put one of these in a couple of his steamers, S-scale is DC correct?

I'm getting well over 2 hours run time on both 9.6v NiMh and 11.1v LiPo batteries, but they still need a charge sooner or later.  I was going to charge them from the track but just wanted to get totally away from power to the track, so now I have charging jacks installed in each tender and plug the charger in whenever needed.

I'm keeping an eye on this as I've been converting my O scale steam engines to Battery-Power, Remote-Control and I see BlueRail Trains may eventually offer a system for battery power.

So far I have converted 8 steamers, using a system offered by RCS in Australia.

Great job Don!

I wish Bachmann would offer some new engines, maybe with an inclined steam chest for the Ten-Wheeler.

Thanks Bob!

The metal wheels sure make a difference in weight.

I looked at getting the Bachmann couplers but they're showing as sold out.

Thanks Hunt, just what I needed!!!  Now onto Micro-Fasteners to order some ball-end hex drivers.

Large / RAIL JOINER SCREW SIZE???
November 24, 2015, 08:01:32 AM
I've read on here the screws used to secure the rail joiners are 2mm and that it takes a 2mm hex wrench, is this correct?

I've been using an old, worn out standard hex wrench (forget what size) and want to order some ball-end hex drivers from Micro-Fasteners.  They carry both metric and standard just need to know what size to get.

Thanks Chuck!

I'm using a laptop computer power supply, hooked to an old Aristo-Craft Train Engineer with handheld remote.

I asked the question because just about all the Ebay sellers have "Analog" in their writeups  ::)

I'm presently using a battery-powered, R/C system from RCS Australia (Tony Walsham) in my eight O-scale steam engines, I will most likely install it in my Bachmann G scale Ten-Wheeler sometime next year.  While I was doing this I converted them all to 2-rail and pulled up my center rail.  So other than having large-flanged wheels they have all the looks of 2-rail engines (Kadees get installed whenever I bought them).

Large / ANALOG???

I know what analog means in electronics, but what does it mean when associated with the 4-6-0 Annie?  What are the differences between an "Analog Annie" and a "Digital Annie", if there is such a thing?

Chuck...what you said.

The Bachmann trucks do fit the Aristo bolsters so I ordered a pair.  I did modify the Aristo couplers so they would work, but they're about 1/4" too high, the coupler mount is stepped down to clear the axle.  I could modify that, but it was easier to get new trucks.

I don't mind the archbar trucks, they seem like they fit in the period of all the other rolling stock and Annie I have so all is good!

Thanks guys!  I think I'll do as you suggest Bill and see if the Bachmann trucks I have will fit, then order.

I would bag and tag all parts you remove, heck, I even took photos (turned out to be a good idea).

Large / Aristo Craft Flatcar???
November 18, 2015, 08:02:42 PM
I bought a nice looking Aristo-Craft flat car at a local train show back in September.

Today was the first time I put it behind my other (Bachmann) rolling stock and couldn't keep it on the track.  The couple knuckle has a slightly different design than the Bachmann knuckle and they don't seem to mate very well.

Anyone know of a Bachmann part number for a truck with coupler that I can use to replace the Aristo-Craft assembly?  The Aristo truck is plastic with plastic wheels and all my Bachmann trucks have metal wheels.

Or can the Aristo coupler be modified to work with the Bachmann coupler?

I got my 1st Bachmann G scale 4-6-0 last year around this time.  I bought an 8' circle of brass track...and have nowhere to really put it without having to move furniture  :o

A couple of hours ago I bought a 5' circle of brass track from an EBay seller.

I hope to be able to design a floor layout that incorporates both 5' and 8' sections (I also have a box of straight brass track).  I still may have to move the dining room table out, but it's only for Christmas so it may not be a problem.  I'm by myself so the only ones who will be over are family and a few friends.

Just make sure you have the room.
