General Discussion / Re: EZ Command module Question
February 17, 2023, 02:03:24 PM
I use Stnd DC controller; EZ Command DCC controller and Digitraxx DCC controller.
I program all my DCC Locos with Digitraxx and then "address" them with EZ Command DCC.
Hint: Best Loco address for EZ Command usage is the 'last' number of the Loco itself (road number). So for a BNSF Loco #6803 it's DCC address would be "3". For CB&Q #118, it's DCC address is "8".
My EZ Command sheet lists the loco numbers by the LAST digit.
KISSS... and they run on all three of my controllers without any issues.

Hi Jward, thanks and I agree... it is the deadly error chain effect triggering the later derailment. I had a similar event (not derailment) with a new Walthers F7A. In 18" radius curves the trucks were severely binding, not on the track rails, but on the shell ladders striking two areas on the 'oversized' Blomberg (?) trucks. Removal of 4 brake lines (snip) on the trucks and the lowest rung on four ladders (snip) allowed free truck movement in the tight curves. A little cosmetic refinishing and I now have a good running F7A.

Hi JWard and Chemdawg; I wondered so checked my Bachmann GP40 and it has Code 110 (.110") wheels. I do not have a SD70, but believe you are correct. Running Code 88 on any locomotive would not be beneficial to operation. I have 18" radius curves so I mostly run Geepers (GP7, GP9, GP15, GP40, etc).
Have a great day...
PS: I will keep watching this discussion so please post the cause/solution when you guys discover it. I learn something new everyday. Thanks.

Just some thoughts on wheels... narrow wheels derail where standard wheels do not.
From my notes:
"The term Wheel Code 110 and Code 88 relates to the width of the wheels and has no relationship to track code. Code 110 wheels are .110" wide and Code 88 are .088" wide. Code 110 wheels are the common (or "Standard") width wheels and Code 88 are what is called "Semi-Scale" and are used when the modeler wants a more prototypical looking wheel width. Actual HO-Scale prototypical wheel width would be around .067" wide and although they will run OK on the average track they will not go through common turnouts and crossings. Code 88 (.088") is just about the minimum width of wheel that will run on most standard or common track if gauged correctly."
Hope it helps...

Here is my "note to self" about my GP40 shell removal.
Bachmann GP40 Shell removal: pull off diesel tank (ply slowly with small flat blade screw driver); unscrew 2 screws, lift off shell. Hope it helps...

Thanks for your thoughts on code of conduct... I agree. This forum (discussion board) is just that ...a peaceful and respectful place to discuss success and failure in our hobby. To ask questions, learn new techniques and to provide/receive education. Confrontational or argumentative behavior is just immature and uncivilized behavior.
I was also challenged once on a different forum by the moderator as I disagreed with their position. I was polite and explained my views. Moderator wanted a link... which I provided. I was then 'blocked' by the moderator because my link (video) disproved their stated position. Very strange indeed... knowledge is just that and what works for some, will NOT work for others. That is part of life... some people just fight their way through life. They don't enjoy being a small part of a truly great hobby. God Bless...

HO / Re: BachMann EZ Track Turnout
February 04, 2021, 06:21:42 PM
Hi, I removed the wiring to keep it new and undamaged. I don't need it in my current layout and keep them in a zip-lock bag. Putting up and taking down my layout is just easier without the extra wires hanging there. 64' of track on a 4'x8' layout makes it a bit tight in some places.

General Discussion / Re: Can't View Bachmann Catalog

Adobe Reader still supports PDF files and that is "my preferred" catalog format. I am not a fan of PHP format catalogs. Never have been. Like I said offer BOTH (PHP and PDF) then let the customer choose which to open and use. Not a hard concept... Bachmann sales dept should understand.

General Discussion / Re: My layouts over the years.

Wow... very impressive. I like the small footprint concept. I have to keep mine 4'x8' to allow easy take down and set up. I have 64' of track with 4 turnouts and one crossover running analog DC. Your pictures give me some thoughts for future layouts, many thanks for sharing.

I have 4 of the #44562 turnouts and they all came with electric switch wiring. I unscrewed the switch activator and removed the wiring (saved it for later use). I use all 4 turnouts as manual switching, which works better for my layout.

My 0-6-0 GN #58 came with NO smoke switch inside the cab. But it does make smoke. Also the loco is very light at 9.4 oz. (poor traction) so I'll add some weight once I understand how to properly remove the 0-6-0 shell.
Also the Vandy Tender came with "plastic" wheels/axles that do not turn properly. I've ordered a truck tuner to clean the truck journals and will replace the cheapo plastic with metal wheels.
Question: Anyone know the proper axle length for the 0-6-0 Vandy Tender???
I was surprised that only some locomotives come with full instructions on "shell removal".
IMO, every locomotive sold by Bachmann and Walthers should come with complete instructions on shell removal.
After thought: I would really like Bachmann and Walthers to offer "additional shells" when you buy their original locomotive.  This 0-6-0 I would have bought 2-3 additional shells GN, NP, CB&Q, etc.

General Discussion / Re: Can't View Bachmann Catalog

Yep, Bachmann Sales doesn't THINK like the customer.
I see their 2021 Catalog is ONLY in "PHP" format which is OK... but Bachmann needs to ALSO make that same 2021 Catalog available in "PDF" format. All down loadable catalogs flyers etc should be offered in both PHP and PDF... flexibility in format sells more product. (not rocket science concept).
While "PHP" is cute... but also dysfunctional for many customers. "PDF" is easier to navigate than "PHP" and for many customers is a better format.
Wake-up Bachmann offer your 2021 catalog (all future catalogs) in both PHP and PDF... let the "customer pick" which works best for them. Providing only "one option" makes customers walk away and buy elsewhere...
