N / Turntable Manual
April 10, 2018, 04:10:30 PM
In the Parts, Service & Information area I can find the Manual for the HO scale turntable but not the N scale turntable.  Did I miss it?

I have used the NCE 4 amp units on my Bachmann locomotives when I do not want sound.

For the ones that did not come with DCC and sound and I want sound I use the Soundtraxx TSU4400.

JCD,

If you turn the locomotive over and put the rear truck to your left and it is centered, looking just to the left of the right set of wheels on the rear truck there is a lever.  Try pulling it up and turning it 90 degrees.

JCD,

In the instructions there is a way to allow the locomotives to use smaller radius.  It allows the rear truck to move side to side rather then just pivot on the frame.

I have mine properly working on LGB R3 radius no problem.  1175 MM  46.26 inch radius,  2350 mm  91.52 inch diameter.

General Discussion / Re: Curve size

If the 24" overall width is your problem look at using 5 ft by 9 ft plywood rather then 4 ft by 8 ft.  It is the size that is sold for ping pong tables.  You can also get it pre-cut as some people build the tables to fold.  If you do turn the pieces so the usable size is 4.5 ft by 10 ft giving you more straight track.

What do you consider 'too expensive'?

I enjoyed building them at train shows.  Even had q couple of young girls, 10 and 12, build flat cars at one train show.

A great way to get people interested in the hobby.

The one out of 101 Track Plans that I have built in two different scales is #8, Port Ogden & Northern.  I modified it both times.

In HO I built it in three eight foot sections for a total of twenty four feet.  I built it one foot by sixteen in N Scale with larger radius that worked great.

Take the time to read what Linn Westcott says about building model railroads, good advice.

HO / Re: Cass Scenic Railroad

I have been going to Cass since the late 1970's.  Do not make it as often as I used to but every trip had been enjoyable.

While you are in the area if you have you family with you also take them to Green Bank Observatory.

You could buy the LGB16040 and 16140 Manual turnouts or change the 16050 and 16150 to manual using the LGB 12060.

One EZ-Command will run multiple trains.  The same for other low cost systems.

You might read a little about DCC, a good place to start is:

There are several options.  You might look at:

Sievers: http://sieversbenchwork.com/

Model Railroad Benchwork: http://www.modelrailroadbenchwork.com/

Kam Konnict: http://www.kamkonnect.com/

They all have their good points including Woodland Scenics.

Just remember the old saying:

He who dies with the most trains wins!
