HO / Re: Bachmann DCC decoder

If your issue is truly the same as mine, the answer is it doesn't have a DCC decoder.  I mistook the circuit board on my unit for a DCC decoder when it really is only a DC circuit board that only controls the lights and motor.

HO / Crane Car and Boom Tender Parts Diagram
April 12, 2015, 09:50:32 PM
Does anyone have a parts diagram for the Crane Car & boom Tender, #401438?  I acquired this second hand and believe some parts may be missing since I can't adjust the crane (missing knobs I think) and it won't lock onto the car (probably a missing round table).  Thanks!

Thanks folks, now I have a good excuse to spring for a sound decoder :-)

Perhaps the board isn't a decoder,  but merely something that controls lighting, etc. So much to learn!

Thanks!

I am having the same problem with a new EZ Command system and a Spectrum loco acquired second-hand.  If you get a successful response please let me know and I will do the same.

Thank you Jerry, but I believe this strictly is a decoder issue, the unit operates well under DC power.

Alas, If only I had another decoder-equipped unit to confirm the controller was working.

Thank you for your reply.  I followed those instructions but without success.  I also watched the online instructional video as well to be sure I was doing it correctly. After I completed the programming steps, my unit makes several different sounds that may be akin to the jerky movement demonstrated in the video when reprogramming is successful, but no movement occurs with my unit and the loco does not respond to the speed control knob.

Has anyone had a similar issue and determined the cause and/or resolve it successfully?

Happy Easter all!  Just got a new EZ Command system and a second hand Spectrum 70 Tonner with a factory installed Kader decoder. I don't know what the previous address was for this locomotive, so I am following the directions for setting a new address when the prior one was >10.  Unfortunately this does not work and the locomotive just whines loudly (no sound decoder installed).  The loco does continue to run with address 10 (as DC).  Recommendations?

HO / Re: 70 Tonner With DCC re-assembly

Thanks for your reply, Len.  The decoder that came with this model is the PCB, which controls only lights, direction and speed.  Each truck and the motor have a black and a red wire.  Another way of putting it is should all the wires on each side of the decoder be the same color?  If that is the case then when I started to reassemble it I reversed both trucks with respect to the chassis, or when it was manufactured the motor wires were crossed under the board.

If the decoder is burned out I don't plan on replacing it right away, so when I reassemble it with this one I want to make sure I don't burn it out (assuming I didn't already).  I read on another thread that these boards do burn out pretty easily.

Thanks!

HO / 70 Tonner With DCC re-assembly

Had a little mishap on the home rails and a derailment caused a short that partially fried the wires on from the trucks to the DCC decoder.  Pulled it apart, wrapped the wires, reassembled the chassis and ran juice from the trucks directly to the motor (so far, so good).  Looked at the wires and the decoder and only then realized I'd forgotten to make note of which wire went where on the decoder.  Unfortunately the instructions don't make a note of it either.  Using the left side as a basis, I currently have red wires from the trucks and a black wire to the decoder - is that correct or should there be only red (or only black) on that side?

Also, is there any visual way to determine if the decoder is fried?

Thanks!
