Can anyone tell me how to take the shell off of this Bachmann, GP 30, dcc loco? I've done a search & can't find anything that tells me exactly how to do it. Thanks, John

It's not pulling any cars & all the wheels are turning as far as I can tell. The track is fine. All my other locos run without a problem. This thing will move a couple of inches but mostly just spins it's wheels.

HO / GP 30 looses traction

I have a fairly new Bachmann GP 30 dcc that will just sit ont the track and spin it's wheels. The first time this happened I cleaned the wheels and it worked fine. Now it's doing it again and no amount of cleaning works. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

OK, that makes me feel better about the noise. By the way . I'm just starting to build the layout & have temporarily layed the track on the roadbed. I only have one set of wires hooked up to the track from an ez-command unit. Could that possibly cause a problem? The layout is 8'x6'

I took the decoder out & replaced the dummy. Runs fine in dc. Although it does make a little noise that I'm not sure about. Never ran it in dc before. I guess I'll have to call Bachmann & see if they will replace the decoder. It's only about 2 wks. old. As far as soldering wires inside these things, I'm afraid that's a little out of my league. Appreciate the input though.

I'm the only one who operates the trains. Just my wife and myself here. Matt, is it common for a decoder to be defective?

HO / Heavy 4-8-2 problem
April 05, 2008, 07:09:40 PM
I have a spectrum 4-8-2 in which I installed a Bachmann decoder. All was well for a few days. Then one day I tried to run it and got no response. Tried a different address and, it ran. It switched its address by itself. Then I tried to reprogram it back to the original address, no go. Next day I tried again and it worked. Today I tried to run it again and, it just sat there humming. Then it gradually started moving but, it does not respond well to the throttle and has no high speed at all. I checked the tender and decoder connections but, everything looks ok. I'm new to dcc. but, will an engine change its address all by itself? I have 5 other Bachmann engines and they all run fine. I'd appreciate any help with this. P.S.: It switched its address twice.

You guys are just too funny some times. The noise dosn't happen all the time, only after it has run for a minute or two &, it does sound like an electrical thing. It's only running on a test track that isn't wired up completely yet. Just one connection from a bachmann ez-comand controler. However my other locos run fine. It's almost as if it's getting a hot foot or something. Thanks for the input though.

General Discussion / Re: Decoder question

Hey, thank you so much for the info. After 30 yrs. away from the hobby I think I get overwhelmed by all of this dcc stuff. I really appreciate the help I get on these forums. I'm chompin' at the bit, waiting for my track to arrive, so I can start my layout. I'll probably have to ask another ? about how to get the tender apart to install the decoder but, that's for another time. Thanks again.

General Discussion / Decoder question

I have a Spectrum heavy mt. 4-8-2 dcc ready loco with the large coal tender &, I would like to know about adding a decoder- what one & where & how do I install it. I have absolutely no idea about these things as you can probably tell. I'm in need of your expert guidance.

Mr. Bach Man, where can I get the little guy that sits inside the cab of my loco? Some how I lost him & I'd really like to get another. Thanks, John

Hey thanks. I'm going to order a set & just wasn't sure about the interior. Thanks again, John

I had already looked around. That's why I asked. I couldn't find anything specific to the interiors of the cars & when I looked in the product reference section I found nothing about it either. Unless I missed something. Thank you for the help though.
