Title: older bachmann spectrum dash 8 40cw

got a good deal on one of these at the train show . got a decoder but has to be soldered in . person who sold me decoder warned me about ground bars on motor to the side of the frame . he said i had to cut or insulate them and to check with meter after reassembly. are there any how to step photo links that anyone knows of to do a soldering install of the decoder in the dash 8 ?

this locomotive should have a split frame chassis. jim banner did an excellent tutorial on installing decoders in these locomotives:

note that while the locomotive pictured is an h16-44, the process is the same for any split frame locomotive.

tcs had a photo install specific to bachmann dash 8 40cw . another member on another forum gave me a link . i have a hard time understanding why digitrax doesnt have this on their site .maybe ill start looking at tcs for my decoders .
