N / Re: rail connectors & couplers
January 04, 2009, 01:10:58 AM
Its, funny, everyone says they got a Thunder Valley Set, i too got one and i noticed the small shanks, but the car corner don't get close enough for any concerns to be honest, but i wanted to know are the couplers in that set knuckles, because to me that looks like dummy HO couplers would.

Are the compatible with other knuckle couplers?

Since I'm brand new to n scale is a 11 1/2 inch curve or whatever comes with the thunder valley set considered small curves?

N / Re: Son and I new to N Scale (Help with Figure 8)
January 03, 2009, 09:56:14 PM
Hello, Bill, today i also bought a Thunder Valley train set, but i think what your asking is what crossover you need to a figure eight, i believe you must have 90 degree crossover to make a figure 8, the only other option would be you get some smaller n scale e-z track curves and tighten up the curve to negotiate with a smaller crossover, hope this helps!

N / Your Layouts
January 02, 2009, 11:58:43 PM
I thought that N scalers should have  place to show there layout, feel free to show off your layouts here, since i don't have one I'll just look and gather ideas of what N scale is capable of.

(Are there any Santa Fe N scalers out there)

I think the owner may have sent in the papers because there weren't any in the box. I don't know how to tell if its under warranty or not but all i want to know if bachmann has any to replace it with if i did send it in.

bought one of your bachmann spectrum engines at a train show on Saturday and it doesn't run. To top of the fact that it does run when i was taking it out the box the whole front broke off the engine. I was wondering if bachmann could fix my locomotive. It is a limited edition Baldwin locomotive works 2-8-0.

Was it a kit? Try oiling it, if that don't work then athearn did a good job of making a prototype specific model.  ;D

O, your right. It looks awful familiar. O well, i guess I'll buy some other number loco. I wonder if b-mann knows the number northerns he does make are in two different classes. We got the 3765 class between numbers 3765-3775 and the 3776 class between numbers  3776-3785. So some of the classes are different anyway, and seem to me the engine body doesn't look like either class, hope this helps.  ;D

Just in case b-mann wants to know the specs of the classes  http://steamlocomotive.com/northern/atsf.shtml

HO / Santa Fe 4-8-4 with dcc
April 13, 2008, 03:48:28 PM
I noticed a little while back the 4-8-4's were going dcc, i wasn't a Santa Fe fan back then, but i am now. It saddened me to notice there was no 3751 as a number choice, why is that bachmann?

Frankly there can be no comparison between Tenshodos steam and diesel models.
While the steam locomotives produced were close to a work of art (for their time) I'm afraid their diesels models were poorly made junk.

Brown book note 541 states Factory painted#3463 brake hangers; rivet detail on tender deck Locomotive and tender too tall.Singlebox labeled"Crown" rectangular oil tender with 20,000 gallon water capacity.
Erected 1971 P quanity 100- list price 125 . Resale value stated  at printing $275-$350
That sounds like a fair value evaluation in todays market for this model.

As for the motors in them I've for the most part found them to be fairly good making for a very good if a bit noisey running locomotive even at very low speeds. Can motors will definitily improve overall operation and is recommended especially if concidering convertion to DCC.

Larry.

This one was not factory painted, you ask me the painter did a better job.
