Title: Locomotive kit question
Post by: BestSnowman on September 25, 2009, 03:04:47 PM
I got my first locomotive kit (an Athearn SD40-2 Snoot) and it came with two handrail kits. Unpainted metal and plastic, I quickly broke the plastic trying to get that installed so now I need to switch to the metal railings. Since they are unpainted I need to figure out what paint to get to match the UP grey. Is there anything specific anyone would recommend for painting the metal athearn railings or specifically for matching UP grey?

Thanks,
Matt

Your friendly local hobby shop that stocks model railroad equipment should have some Floquil or Scalecoat paints that include UP Grey.

I hadn't thought of checking at a hobby shop, since mine "local" hobby shop is 70 miles away I'll have to wait till my next trip (or find an excuse to go for an extended drive :))

Thanks for the advice!

UP's shade of gray is called "Harbor Mist", so if you see a bottle of paint marked with that, you'll know it's the right shade.
