Title: DCC Ready Spectrum 3 Truck HO Shay
Post by: me2earth on October 03, 2009, 03:00:52 PM
I've purchased a Lenz standard decoder with 8 pin plug to install in my Shay. How do you determine the correct orientation of the plug/harness since it fits both ways?

the correct way the loco will run forward when you select forward. The wrong way and it will run in reverse when you select forawrd. no damage. nmra designed it like this to prevent problems.

I believe if you look very closely, there is a very small 1 or an 8 on one end of the decoder socket.... I'm don't  really remember.  As stated above it will not matter if you plug it in backwards, I do believe though that the lights will not work if it's backwards.

you should be able to see the colored wires where they are soldered to the plug, orange is for pin 1.
Red is for pin 8. standard nmra 8 pin plug wires. there should be some kind of indicator for pin 1 on the pc board socket.
