Title: Sound for SD40-2/DCC
Post by: SV on October 18, 2009, 12:50:18 PM
Hello,

Does anyone know of a sound decoder that can work with a Bachmann HO RTR SD40-2/DCC (BAC60906) ? As noted, it is already DCC equipped (direction, speed and lighting only). Would like to add sound to this !

If you've done this already, any pointers on installation of the same would be great too.

Thanks.

Not an easy job.

You have some choices to make; 1st are you going to go with an add on sound decoder, or replace your existing decoder with a full function sound decoder.

Digitrax (and others) offer sound only such as this one:

Soundtraxx (and others) offer full function sound decoders such as p/n 828041 TSU-AT1000 EMD 645  which is suitable for your SD40-2.

And you have to figure how to mount and baffle the speaker; which may require a bit of milling if your locomotive was not designed to accept a speaker.

No matter what, you'll be spending $100 or more to add sound to your model.  It may be worthwhile to purchase another manufacturer's sound equipped SD40-2.

Nigel

Thanks for the links. I have some SD40-2's as well as GP38-2's I want to add sound too as well.  I had trouble finding in the  SFX0416 SoundFX+Function Decoder manual on what diesel sounds it would do.

Thanks Nigel for the links and the suggestions.

Looks like I've got some homework to do before making a decision !
