Post by: RRPETE on November 23, 2009, 12:53:38 PM
Is the sound in the 2-6-6-2 articulated or simple?

There's a vidio of it on page 3. Watch, listen and decide for yourself. It sounds "simple" to me. But then you only hear it running at speed.

As I responded in another thread,  when the 2-6-6-2 starts up there are two distinct engine sounds that blend together to sound like one engine as it comes up to speed.

Since both cylinders appear to be the same it would be a simple articulation.

The Soundtraxx Tsunami  has a feature for articulated steam as well as Rod locomotives.

The prototype locomotive (Ingenio Angelina #9, Dominican Republic) was a compound, with 10 &15 inch x 16 inch cylinders.
