Title: GOR bulbs with DCC
Post by: pdlethbridge on November 24, 2009, 05:28:22 PM
I've been installing 12-16 volt GOR bulbs in my engines without a resistor. I use the NCE power cab. There was mentioned recently about resistors and lights to protect against overheating and burnout. I know I'm asking for a headache, but could you lead me to that thread? Thanks

PD,

It was this thread.  If the link doesn't work it was the "Lit Caboose"  topic.

Jim explained it quite well (it didn't hurt a bit).  Just basic addition and subtraction involved.

Regards,

Jonathan

Thank you very much ;)     Another thing I'm concerned about is the start up problem with the bulbs. They draw like 10 times the power of normal operation. Will the resistor help that?

Yes.  In fact Digitrax suggested adding a 22 ohm resistor in series with lamps drawing more than 80 milliamps for just this reason.

Again thanks.
