Title: DCC to standard DC
Post by: Johnlllin on December 25, 2009, 06:37:24 PM
Ive been out of the hobby for 20 + years . I purchased a new 4-8-4 dcc Steam loco for my son to run on our  regular dc powered layout. This is the first dcc loco that I have purchased, Do I need to use the jumper pins to make it ready to run on my layout? The instructions in the box are kind of vague! Can anyone give us the answer. I'd hate to ruin it.        John

You shouldn't, is it a Bachmann locomotive? I believe all of Bachmann's dcc locomotives ship with dual mode decoders (i.e. will work with DC and DCC).

If it does have a dual mode decoder it should run just like a normal.

It will run better on DC if you install the jumpers, but it is not necessary to remove it if you are satisfied with how it is running with the decoder.

Thank you Matthew for your prompt answer. Why yes it is a Bachmann and as soon as I send this Email I'm of to the basement with my son in tow.
