Has anyone swapped the short tender from the 4-4-0 to any other Spectrum steamer?
I have not done that but the only other loco it "might" connect to would be the 4-6-0. I have both.

As has been mentioned on the group numerous times, you can swap tenders but in many cases you need to keep the original circuit board with the original locomotive. So, swap tenders and swap circuit boards between the tenders to that the original circuit stays with the loco. That sometimes requires a little tender kitbashing but that's usually straight forward and not difficult.
I've done it dozens of times. Swapping tenders is almost a second hobby with me. :-)
I swap tenders not only between Spectrum locos but also between Athearn, P2K and Spectrum indiscriminately. Swapping between brands can be a little more challenging but it is possible.
