Title: Parts needed for older Bachmann 2-8-0 steam engine - anyone have a spare?
Post by: rack776 on January 12, 2010, 11:11:31 AM
Hi, I picked up a used bachmann 2-8-0 (see the link for a photo) from arround 1983
http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/bach280.html I dont have a warnty for it.

I need a junk/parts engine with a good metal chassis or at the very least
a new set of drive gears, anyone know where to get the gears or have
a parts engine they would be willing to sell? (I have a plastic chassis
and would like to up grade to the metal one if possible)

It looks too nice to junk and it just needs a set of new gears.

Also Anyone have a factory sheet to show disassembly & part numbers?

Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

Hi rack776,

I don't have that version of the Connie; I have the new Spectrum version.

For a parts loco, I would look to eBay where they can be had for <20$.
Bachmann made a ton of them and they can also still be found at hobby shops and train shows as NOS.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply!
I only paid $2 for it at a flea market so I'd hate to spend $20-$40
on a parts engine LOL!

I considered buying a good one and making
cast resin copies of a good set of gears,
I'll have to look into the durabillity of casting resin first.

I'll keep my eyes open at the local train shows and
see if I can get it a donor chassis.
