Title: Bachmann Polar Express train set
Post by: T34 on March 29, 2010, 05:29:19 PM
Is the Polar Express train set (found in the 2001 Bachmann catalog) worth any real value?
I saw one set sell on "eBay" for $711.00!!  :o

I reviewed my records and find that the ones which sold for $400 to $750 all sold during the time the movie was in the theaters and folks just "had to have one" for their kids.

Recently one sold for $179 supposedly "new in box".     They still don't show up on Ebay very often, so it is really hard to say what one would go for today.

It is definitely a very nice set, with some collector value, but right now with the ressession and all,  Ebay prices are pretty soft so it seems a better time to buy rather than sell!

Dear Bill,

Got one for the kids about 4 years ago. Nice runner with its being the Berk instead of the Mtn.  The power pack is another matter:  OK for a small layout, the horn button stopped working, I think.  The instructions are NOT to open the power pack, for obvious reasons.

I would definitely recommend it for kids of any age !

Best Wishes,

Jack

Jack, are you describing the Lionel Polar Express?  The Bachmann large scale set came with a 4-6-0 without a horn.
