Title: Problems with Large Scale Thomas.
Post by: sleeping martyr on April 04, 2010, 10:39:12 AM
Hi everyone.

I got a large scale Thomas for my son's birthday and we opened it up yesterday. However he doesn't run.  I took a multimeter to track and get power all around, but when i place Thomas on the track, the voltage drop is reduced to nothing.

I took some video and uploaded it here:

Can someone advise what else to check?

Try checking Thomas, to see if something's wrong with him.

I think it is obviously something with Thomas, however I don't know what to check on him.

On the bottom black plate that covers the axles there are 8 small screws.  Remove them and see if there is a problem there keeping the wheels from turning or with the wiring.

If not there are 8 screws in the blue frame that will allow you to remove the cab and boiler.  There is a small circuit board on the back of the motor.  There are two wires that go to each side of the circuit board.  Also look at the area around the worm gear of the motor to see if there is anything keeping the motor from turning.

Dear SM,
The easiest thing to do is return it to your dealer for a new one.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Ok, I've isolated where the short is. It is actually in one of the axles!

perhaps there is an insulating bearing or something missing from the axle?
