Title: Chassis difference
Post by: sarsets on May 12, 2010, 10:35:15 PM
Is there any difference in the length of the chassis between the F7-AB, F9AB, FT-A and FT-B units.
i have used the F7 chassis for a project and would like to know if the FT-A chassis would work

If memory serves, the frames are all the same length except for the F9P which were something like 4 feet longer to accommodate a steam boiler for heating passenger cars.  However, the wheel base on the FT trucks was shorter, something like 8 feet versus 9 feet for the later units.  Having said that, I repowered some old Tenshodo brass FT's with Athearn F7 running gear many years ago and to this day, nobody has ever commented on the wheel base error.  (A number of people have, however, commented on their incredible pulling power.)
