Title: Hicken Tender
Post by: Pacific Northern on June 17, 2010, 12:26:04 AM
Has anyone on this board paired up the Bachmann Hicken tender to one of the Spectrum steamers without having to rewire the connections between the engine and tender?

I checked the web site and found some information indicating that some members of the board had paired up the small vanderbilt tender with the 2-8-0 without having to rewired.  Also some had paired up  the large vanderbilt tender to the Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 and the 2-6-6-2 without requiring rewiring.

I did not find any instances of anyone pairing up a Hicken with any of the Spectrum steamers.

Please advise.

The Hicken tender was sold with the USRA Heavy Mountain and will work with that loco and the 2-6-6-2 without any wiring modifications.

To use it with any other locos, the wires will need to be moved in the connectors and headlights may need to be replaced/rewired.

You can do a search and find more info that I have posted in the past about tendr swaps, or let me know which particular loco you want to put a Hicken behind, then I could offer some specific info.

As I've written before, my favourite method of swapping tenders is to keep the circuit board that came with the locomotive and place that in the "new" tender.  Sometimes that requires minor surgery to to "new" tender but nothing so complex that the average modeller can't accomplish.
