i bought a spectrum sd 45 dcc ready
need to know what kind of dcc chip to buy for it and who makes it?

Almost any HO scale decoder will work. If you are just looking for basic DCC then you can use a Bachmann 1 amp decoder with an 8-pin plug wiring harness.

Is this an N scale SD 45 like you posted about yesterday?  If so, the usual H0 decoders will be too large.  The DZ125 by Digitrax would be a good choice.  It is small enough to fit many Z-scale locomotives and powerful enough for most H0 locomotives.  It is a natural for N-scale and is upgradeable to sound by the addition of a Digitrax Z-bug sound decoder.  Best of all, the DZ125 is available from places like Tony's Train Exchange for about $20.  Click on this link for more information:

He didn't specify a scale and usually that means HO, but I guess not.
