i happen to have an ihc southern pacific mogul and i was wonderning what type of frieght cars would be proper to pull behind the locomotive, also any ideas on passanger cars
Brown 40ft Boxcars with roofwalks, 8k or 10k gallon tank cars, most 2 bay hoppers, and wooden SP cabooses.
Passenger equipment was often very specific to the railroads, and thus you may have difficulty finding accurate SP branchline passenger equipment.
Roundhouse (now part of Athearn) used to make Harriman shorty passenger cars that would look good with this engine on a small pike. Don't know if they're currently in production but they show up on e-Bay from time to time.

thanks for repling, i have about 6 (50') swift refrigeration cars painted red with yellow lettering, would this work for realism, or were the swift cars never in the western part of the country
it isn't that the swift cars did or didn't run in that part of the country. i honestly have no idea. but 50' mechanical reefers were a product of the 1950s, and the diesel era. 40' reefers with ice bunkers on the end (the ones with the hatches on the roof at each end of the car) would be much more appropriate, especially lettered for pacific fruit express, which was part owned by SP. i believe athearn, among others, made models of these cars.
The old Trains Miniature line (bought by Walthers) had all kinds of steam era reefers. They are readily available on ebay and should not be all that expensive.
The same applies to the Harriman cars. I found the MDC Harrimans to be kind of crude - big rivets on the roof and oversize windows. THe paint colors were weird - but with some work they make a credible Harriman car.

You can also find scale 62' passenger cars made by Penn Line and others. These are quite inexpensive on ebay, and almost always there. Sometimes they'll be listed as 60'.
