Title: Forney speed
Post by: bobwrgt on November 29, 2010, 02:38:18 PM
Does the Forney run faster than the Shay.  Just as fast as 2-6-0 ???
I know the Shay is built to run slow with alot of torque.

Very likely, the top speed of a pacific coast shay was approx 10 miles per hour, the T-boiler would definitely be slower then that. The SRRL Forneys were recorded at 50/60mph.
Cheers :)

I don't have a shay, I do have a forney and a 2-6-0 I've never clocked either but the 2-6-0 is faster then the forney for sure.

Yes, it will run faster.  I had the Climax for a while and it was much slower, I presume the final gear ratio of the Shay is about the same.
