Title: Dash-8CW Conrail 6018 HO DC Bachamman
Post by: Poobaaaaa on January 08, 2011, 03:46:55 PM
I just bought a Dash-8CW Spectrum DC loco.  I run an EZ track with EZ DCC controller.  When I put the loco on the rails the lights come on on and make this crazy sound.  Motor runs fine and turns well. I took off the shell and un hooked the motor wires.  Place it back on the track, lights still on and same sound.  I notice the two (pair) circuits (lite brown color and round shape?) were very hot and smelled like the were burning.   The loco runs on button 10 analog on EZ Command.  I haven't run the loco more then ten seconds.  My two other Dash-8CW run fine, they are both DCC.  I do want to put DCC in very soon.

Any ideas for a newbie?

Thanks

The sound just means its DC, if it gets hot, don't run it because you may risk frying the engine.

DC trains are not meant to run on DCC for very long. If you let it sit with the DCC power on you will burn it up.

Would this new part and a decoder make it DCC?

Thanks for your help guys.

That PC board is DCC ready and you will have to plug the decoder in for DCC. Does the board in the engine now have a place to plug the decoder in ? You may not need the new part.

No place for a decoder on the PC board.

Does Bachmann have a brick and mortar store Phila.?  I'm 15 miles outside Phila.
