Hello all,
I just got a White Pass set and have had one problem. The connection plug between the tender and loco is quite loose. The plug doesn't seem to plug in all the way, it often just falls out. After working awhile I managed to get a positive connection, however the plug is still very loose, like it could just slip out. Should these two "snap" together in a more positive manner? I don't want to force it and break the pins.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Also... Do these locos need lubricating before running the first time?
Thanks!
John
John,
They should not be loose, and I have never heard of a new one being loose, Try firm pressure, but be sure you are inserting it correctly. Do0es the other plug go in OK?
An initial lube with plastic compatible lube would be a good idea.
Dear Bill and John,
Do you think the female plug in the engine might be loose ? Never took a 4-6-0 apart to look at one. Does anyone know how they are fastened inside the engine ?
Best Wishes,
Jack
White Pass loco is an Annie - if it has an operating backup light, blank right side of this circuit board will have plug for it.
Plug on left is for sound.
This photo is of a 2.5 year old 4-6-0 loco, same general vintage as the Annie I have - who knows if this design has been tinkered with in the interim.

(not spending half an hour taking my Annie apart just for the picture, this Big Hauler was already dismantled for re-detailing and repainting)
Dear KT,
Much obliged ! On another side, did she leave you "a mule to ride ?" ;D
Best Wishes,
Jack
Welcome.
Have no idea what the mule to ride saying means.
Another note:
To get boiler off, one of two things is necessary:
a.) get red tab add-on off of sound switch - it can be solidly glued on.
or
b.) take #11 knife or pointy sprue nippers to cut vertical bars out from between plugs and switch.

Ok, thanks for the help everyone, especially for the photo. One plug is fine, fits right in. I believe it was the white one that was problematic. I did have both sound and rear light( very dim) functional. I'll look at it more closely when I get home next week. The track power connector was also 'bit fiddly for me. Might have to do something about that also.
This large scale is a funny thing. I just got this set for the Christmas tree, that was supposed to be it. I've already bought more track and stuff! I think I may have caught the bug! ;D
Thanks again!
John
......And thus it begins. (welcome aboard John) Later All..........S.B.
Welcome to the group!!!!
Dear Forrest,
The opening song of "The Blues Brothers."
