Title: bachmann's bigger steam locos and 18" radius
Post by: Penn_senseless on February 13, 2011, 02:37:39 PM
Question:

Will the larger locomotives such as the 2-10-4 and the Norfolk and western J  operate at all on 18" radius curves, or will the drivers derail? I know they will look goofy going round those curves, but i want to have an 18-19" turning radius using a hidden loop, so im just wondering if it will  work and am not worried about the appearance.

The catalog says performs best on 22" radius, so i guess that means it will work, will just look a bit silly doing so due to overhang

The 2-10-4 and 4-8-4 will derail on 18" radius, I have never tried 19" radius, but they will run for sure on 22" radius.

I have two 4-8-2 Bachmann Spectrum Mountains that both do fine on 18" and 22" radius.  My Bachmann Pacific seems to have trouble going over turnouts but of course is fine on 18" radius.
