Title: DCC operation
Post by: jetf14 on February 18, 2011, 05:06:09 PM
I have received great help from this forum. I am brand new at this train hobby. I successfully added DCC to my DCC ready Bachmann 4-8-2 heavy mt. However, when I turn it on, I get a loud humming noise from the engine. It goes away as it starts to move. I have one other engine that came DCC equipped and it does not make that noise. Any ideas as to the cause or is this normal? Thanks..Jetf14

It is likely normal, unless you installed a silent running decoder, your other loco may have a silent decoder.

I used the Bachmann 44915. Thanks for the information. As long as the hum does not represent a condition that can cause damage, I'm OK with it.

my dcc onboard locomotives all do this. the ones i have installed my own decoders in don't buzz. the bachmann decoders are a very basic, low end decoder without many refinements.
