Hi all,
I am new to the forum and I was wondering can you put DCC into a Bachmann Plymoth Red shunter and a bachmann Morse North Western? If you can can you use a plug in chip or do you need a soldered chip?
Thanks & Kind Regards
Henry
There are no plug in decoders for either, for the FM-H16-44 I know for sure you will need to isolate the motor from the frame. I do not advise installing DCC in the plymouth as it requires greatly improving the pickup to get it to run decently.
I have done the Plymouth with a Digitrax DZ125 decoder but th pickups are terrible. All hard wired. Not worth the effort. Mine has the pancake motor and I isolated the motor connections.
Many of the standard line have poor pickups, just not all.
Take time to go through the diagram section to see what the loco looks like inside.
And since you have to ask the question, go to the below link nd download the document. Read all though it. Loads of DCC info.

Thanks ACY and richg for your quick and prompt response. But for the North Western loco can someone suggest a soldered chip for it?
Thanks & Kind Regards

You can try looking at the web sites for the various decoder manufacturers. You can find a list of manufacturers here:
http://www.tttrains.com/dcc/dcc_man.htm
And there's a list of recommended decoders by loco type here:

Hope this helps.

for the bachmann h16-44 here is a step by step guide to installing a decoder. this process will work for any other bachmann diesels with a split frame.
