Title: upgrading to DCC sound
Post by: vanvlit on April 04, 2011, 09:16:13 AM
I have several DCC equipped engines that I would like to add sound to.  Is there a way to add DCC on board sound to a DCC equipped train?

It would help if you told us which locomotives you have. Anyway, if you have a Bachmann standard series locomotive such as a FT, F7, F9, most GPs, and most steam locos then the install will either not be worth it or be difficult for one reason or another. If your locomotive is a Spectrum with DCC then in most (not all) cases you should not have too much trouble, unless there is not enough space for the speaker and baffle.

I have  deiseal EMD GP40 I was hoping to upgrade to sound.   I also have a Spectrum Steam engine 2-8-0.

The EMD GP40 is not a very good candidate for a sound upgrade due to a lack of space. A tsunami decoder would work nicely for your 2-8-0.

Good sound info site. Look at the complete site. There are many possibilities for DCC and sound installs in many different types and scale.
Click on the Litchfield Station site to look at the actual decoders and speakers. All the specs are there.
