Title: 4-4-0 DC circuit board is it needed for DCC?

4-4-0 DC circuit board is it needed for DCC?

I have a on30 4-4-0 DCC question. If I do not want to have DC capability for this engine, can I use just the included DCC decoder and eliminate the circuit board? I am trying to fit sound into the tender and I need the extra space. Does the circuit board provide anything but the plug for the decoder?
I would hard wire the decoder, eliminate the circuit board and use the space for the speaker.

Will this work or is the circuit board still needed?

Thank you

I had ran into the same problem on my forney to poter conversion I just removed to circut board and wired the tsu 1000 directly to the wire connector  under the firebox. I do not own a 4-4-0 but I would think it would be the same thing.
