Title: Double cross-over
Post by: Derek on April 17, 2011, 07:20:04 AM
I am developing my layout, and need to install a double cross-over.
My track is all Bachmann with grey roadbed.
I don't think that Bachmann make a double cross-over, so I would like advice on which other brand of double crossover is the most combatible with Bachmann, please.

Many thanks.

atlas track has a modular design that lets you easily make one with either #4 or #6 switches.

#4:
20" length, 3" track centers.
needed: 2#4 left, 2#4 right, 1 25 degree crossing, 2 2" straights.

#6:
26" length, 3" track centers.
needed: 2 #6 left, 2#6 right, 1 19 degree crossing, 2 2" straights.

hope this helps.

Dear All,

A small correction:

The "Track Planner" chapter of "Atlas Custom-Line Layouts for HO Scale Railroads (2nd Edition)" book by John Armstrong and Thaddeus Stepek shows:

Double Crossover #4:
20-1/2" length, 3" track centers.
needed: 2#4 left, 2#4 right, 1 25 degree crossing, 2 2-1/2" straights.

Anyrail.com CAD layout program shows 2.54" gap and 20.54" length.  (Kind of fun to put together...try it.)

Double Crossover #6 (remains as shown by jward):
26" length, 3" track centers.
needed: 2#6 left, 2#6 right, 1 19 degree crossing, 2 2" straights.

Anyrail shows 2.01" gap and 26.01" length.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik
