Title: Transcontinental Oil tank cars
Post by: oldline1 on April 24, 2011, 10:06:07 PM
Is the lettering on the Bachmann Transcontinental Oil Co. 3 dome tank accurate? Any info on the company?

Thanks,

Dear Roger,
The lettering was taken from a black and white photo from Ed Kaminski's ACF tank car book. After discussion among many people, I was told the car was red and black. Atlas has also done a car; theirs is green and black. Who knows- maybe there were cars in both colors!
Transcon became Marathon, and the runner on the car side represents Pheidippides, the Greek soldier whose run inspired the athletic event.
Have fun!

Thanks for the answer about the Transcon tankers. I have 5 of them so far and was looking for a good way to use them on the layout. I just loved the colors and have a thing for 3 dome tanks!
