Hello, was wondering if anyone could help me out? I recently bought a santa fe 5012@ a local train show. It was a great deal and my 4 3/4yr old son fell in love w/ it! It runs great,lights come on and smoke element works! The only thing that doesn't work is the sound board on the tender. This is the 1 plug model w/ speaker port on bottom of tender. I know that it is powered by the track and then the loco but it doesn't seem to be powering the speaker. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.
If it has smoke then it either does not have sound or is a really old loco. Open the tender and look to see what is inside.

I don't know specifically about your loco but I can say that you can have speaker holes in the tender floor and an IC board without having DCC or sound. Many locos have a PCB for lights.
