Post by: jettrainfan on June 12, 2011, 04:58:02 PM
I was wondering if anyone wanted to share there cab ride videos? I made one for a person who wanted to see it on the CV&WS ho scale layout, so i did and it actually worked out pretty well.

Anyone want to share one or a few?

Undeniably cool, but it freaked me out a little
when the train jumped off of the track and
flew around at about the three minute mark.

i originally edited that out but Microsoft movie maker isn't the greatest. I saved it and when i came back to publish it... i watch the video to see that the part stayed in.

Well, the flying loco was actually kind of fun. And it has a prototype: the Flying Scotsman. Or we could call it the Aerotrain, a la  the Amphicar of the 1950s. Oh, wait. GE already had an Aerotrain. But that is yet another prototype. So leave it in.

My 2 cents worth of video.  Yeah I know, corny music but I couldn't resist.
Hope the link works.  This was my 2nd attempt at youtube posting.

Don't sell yourself short. That's a nice bit of video. I wish I could put trains up and take them down as fast as you do. I'll just bet it was some kind of a camera trick. Seriously, I did enjoy your video, even the mildly obscene part at the beginning. Or maybe I'm just a dirty old man. Well, I knew I was old but the dirty part is difficult to ackowledge.

There are a surprising number of "cab rides" on YouTube, some better than others.

I've got five cats around here, and have to laugh at this one:

Jet Train, I also saw on your video list that you had been to Cass recently.  How was the trip?

vigguy069- that was a great video! closer to a quarter than 2 cents  ;)

J3a-614- video: i couldn't help but think that the cat at 1:06 was a railfanner  ;D

referring to Cass, I had an excellent time! Perfect weather too. The last time i went it rained, which was a bit upsetting, but still enjoyed the ride. Didn't see the hesiler, probably being worked on. The Climax is coming along nicely, a good amount of progress sence my last visit. Hoping to come back when she's done and see her running. Took the Whittaker trip and the bald knob trip. Nice views on both but the bald knob trip is a bit better because you still make the stop at Whittaker. I defiantly recommend going up there!

cass is one of the railroad treasures. east broad top is another.

while in the neighbourhood of cass, if you get a chance to ride the west virginia central  out of cheat bridge. if i am not mistaken, the possible roster of locomotives they use includes a bl2 and at least one alco fa2. the curves are streetcar sharp, and the scenery beautiful.

Yea, went 2 years ago to see that run but not ride and they had what looked like F3As, didn't run or sound like alcos. The BL2 i'd love to catch though!

No cab is big enough for the camera for me. So, I got the next best thing. I'm going to do this again, but with a nicer camera...

...and tape.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctKGseQWYsA

First one is on top of a Bachmann SP Boxcar, the second is flatcar height. Neither shots have the camera mounted on anything or secured properly. The camera is just sitting there. The video is way back when I didn't do a lot of stuff, and when I wasn't the tech freak I am today. I look back seeing 1,000+ mistakes, but there's no mistake in the entertainment I got out of it.  ;)

Cheers,
Joshua
