Title: Bachmann HO 2-8-0 DCC locomotive
Post by: Swanton-HO-HO on July 06, 2011, 05:42:06 PM
I have a 2-8-0 DCC equipped locomotive.  (This was a gift from a friend.) The number on the box is 83601.  I have checked the Bachmann website, but the item number is not listed.  Does anybody know what brand of DCC sound decoder has been installed?  The spec sheet in the box called it an "E-Z Command" system.
Thanks.

Your locomotive does not have sound, just a basic DCC decoder.

If your locomotive is an 83601, then it should be painted but with no lettering.  And it should have a DCC non-sound decoder if it has its original decoder.  There is always the possibility that someone has installed a sound decoder, either a previous owner or a dealer.  If your locomotive has numbers and a railroad name or crest, it could be an 84500 series locomotive in the wrong box.  Easiest way to tell is to open the tender (1 screw) and see what is in there.
