Post by: AHRJMR on September 02, 2011, 01:06:04 PM
Does Bachmann carry an Amtrak AMD-103 DCC Locomotive?

Thanks,

Jim

That is an Athearn/Walthers product, if you are refering to the Phase V 103 (a P42).  Athearn also sold the older phases of the AMD-103 as well.  I believe they are now out of production.

They are DCC ready, meaning there is a receptacle for a decoder.  I had one (sold it).  It ran well in both DC and DCC.  Adding a decoder was easy.

Regards,

Jonathan

you must be careful with these. my son has an older p42 which was not  dcc ready. we did convert it to dcc which wasn't especially hard to do, but be aware that there are some older models out there without the plug, and that on these locoomtives you do have to isolate the motor and headlight before you can think of installing dcc.
