Title: DCC 4-8-4
Post by: hutchinsonj on November 07, 2011, 04:13:47 PM
I recently purchased 2 new Bachmann 4-8-4 engines with tenders. I cannot them to stay on the track. My other engines run well. Anyone experiencing this?

Just as a guess I'd say the locos need 22" min radius

Need some more information:
Is it only the locos which are derailing? Only the tenders? Both the loco and tender?

If it is just the loco, is it only one set of wheels?

Is derailment happening at the same place every time?

Are they derailing in switches? At track joints? On curves? And if on curves, what radius?

For example, my little Spectrum 4-6-0 kept having its front 4 wheels derail when going forwards, but not in reverse, through switches, turned out the wheels were just a hair too far out on the axles and that was making them derail at the switch frog.
Easily remedied, but without an NMRA Standards Gauge to use I'd have never known that.
