I have been playing around with two of my turnouts taking advice from the previous posts. Some have helped some not.
I took my #6 crossover that was giving me problems on one side (rails were very sloppy when thrown causing wheels to move rail and derail) and took it apart to find Bachmann uses a piece of fine hair like wire to throw the rails. I took apart one of my leftover manual switches and removed the plastic arm holding the thin wire and replaced it with a piece of stonger, thicker piano wire. WOW what a difference it made.It holds the rails a lot tighter in the thrown position that any loco, rolling stock can not move it causing derailment.
I plan on upgrading all my switches this way and will post pics along the way.
My questions to Bachmann are:
1- is the plastic piece holding the wire available in case of a mishap?
2- is there any chance of making a replacement part with heavier wire?
3- is it possible to pass this info on so the manufacturer can upgrade ( no retooling should be needeed just change out wire size)
Upgrading all my switches sure would be easier with a replacement part.
